Glock Liphart Probst & Partner was entrusted with the legal support of the Allianz Arena in Munich from the very beginning. We initially advised the two Munich football clubs involved in the project and subsequently the stadium company they founded. The process of determining the location, the agreements with the City of Munich regarding the land, the invitation to tender for the Europe-wide competition for the design and construction work, the detailed planning of the selected design, the approval processes, the construction contract, the construction of the stadium, and the acceptance of the construction marked the work of the first five years.
In close consultation with the City of Munich, the team of the project participants (architects, experts, the clubs) identified the commercial area in Fröttmaning as the preferred location, chosen from a shortlist of seven sites. The selected location met the large requirements in terms of space and infrastructure (traffic) and the noise protection challenges seemed manageable. This was followed by obtaining required building permits; Glock Liphart Probst & Partner supported the process to change the development plan into a special football stadium zone. The positive outcome of the referendum conducted by the city enabled the planning of the development with autobahn access.
On behalf of the operating company, Glock Liphart Probst & Partner negotiated the contract with the two bidders from the competition remaining after the jury’s evaluation. The Steering Committee, chaired by the mayor, was able to make quick decisions during the regular meetings. By effectively combining forces, the project was completed in time for the 2006 World Cup.
Glock Liphart Probst & Partner continues to advise the operating company. In the meantime, the capacity of the stadium has grown from the original 66,000 spectators to 75,000 spectators. The stadium has also received a new guest entrance on the west side with a bridge structure and guest parking garage as well as a bus parking garage. The lease agreements with skybox renters and sponsors, facility management, catering and the IT infrastructure – we deal with all these in our work on public licensing law and civil contract law. Glock Liphart Probst & Partner continues to support the operation and further development of the Allianz Arena.
